Not To Overshadow How Much I Continue To Miss London But...

The past couple months, I've been missing New York City like the dickens! I haven't been there in over a year, which is absolutely ridiculous and rare. I've been to Boston more often, which is absolutely appalling! I mean, this was the place I was totally going to call home.

I guess there are just things more important. I mean, I'd really have no physical reasoning behind my going there except to make me smile a whole lot.

Starting to think of maybe making the move there after grad-ee-ation. Certainly plenty of theatres to work in even if it's just a crapload of freelance stagehanding, maybe some internzinating. Such an expensive city, though, which is annoyingly important to keep in mind when finding a way to move to the UK is top priority.

And at this point, it's strange to consider moving away from southeastern MA/RI in such a hurry. Not that I want to stay there forever in the least, but...separation anxiety? Something seems to pull me back to that place.

You know, my plans and my actions are going to change countless times in the next ten months. Fuggeduhbadit. The only things that matter are the things I've wanted for years and not given up on yet. Those are the things that all somehow need to be worked in. And I know it's all possible! Call me young and blissfully naïve, but I fixed enough problems with the set today all on me lonesome that I feel pretty indomitable.

Don't Stop Me Now, says Queen, Cos I'm Havin' Such A Good Time.

Two and a half weeks til my return Home. Real Home.

Srsly? Already?

I'M OKAY WITH THAT.

Bring on the Lucozade Sport on morning Tube rides, and evenings cuddled up reading the London Paper after a pint at the pub. I'm okay with that.

half n half.

I first woke up this morning smiling because in my dream, I was wandering around London.

Then I quickly realised where I was.

And where I wasn't.

The smile went away quick.

if i were a praying mantis...

I don't think I'd be into that whole sexual cannibalism thing. That's messed. BUT I just found out that they can be used for biological pest control so you don't have to use pesticides in your garden. It's official - I'm buying every person I know mantis eggs. At least people with gardens. Mostly, I just think praying mantises [mantises? manti?] are one of the coolest looking things ever. They just look like they want to go "Dude!" and high five you every moment of the day and, you know, I'm into that.

In other news, I've got a cut on my finger and I have no idea where it came from. I always wonder about that - Finding wounds on your body and having no idea. Either human bodies are just that fragile or we're very forgetful creatures. I mean, srsly.

Somehow, I failed to mention Sunday, which was fantastic. To sum it up, I went into Bawwstunn, met up with my old friend Becky who I've known since that fateful summer I first went off to the big wide world of university, we ate mac n cheese, talked, ate gelato, laughed, ate cupcake, went to Urban Outfitters and bought me an amazing dress, conversated about filmmaking and art like the pretentious-amibitious-born-n-raised-along-the-banks-of-the-CT-river-students we are, had tea and latté, apparently engorged ourselves with food, and just plain frolicked throughout one of my least favourite cities in the drizzle and made me not hate the place so much. You know, Cambridge is pretty neat. I mean, it's not a city I'd want to live in - I just don't get any special vibe from it, it's really nothing special, but it just felt good to be in the city again. I love Provvy, but nothing can beat the big city feel. God I miss London, especially with the recent mist occurrances.

Anyway, I've digressed. The specific reason I'd gone up there besides to see my fellow Doctor Who fanatic was to see PATRICK WOLF live at the Middle East. ONE OF THE BEST SHOWS EVER. HOLY CRAP. I was nervous about this - He's such a genius recorded that I was afraid he would be unimpressive live, but my fears were groundless! We watched some real fun bands prior [Jaguar Love, The Plasticines, and The Living Things], went to Wendy's to nibble some fries [ah, the shame], found out the flying ants had re-invaded my bedroom [no surprises...they've since been vanquished], and then Voila! The man appears on stage an hour past his time to go on, decked out in this fabulous outfit and makeup, looking like he's ready to strut down the catwalk [which he later admitted he dreams of doing...36 catwalks all throughout Boston, specifically] and he just bangs out unbelievable song after unbelievable song. I saw him play about, I think, four different instruments, and we didn't even get to see the whole set because I had to catch the T back to Quincy. But we saw him play most of my favourite songs: Bluebells [one of my favourite songs ever made by anybody ever], Accident & Emergency, Tristan, Enchanted, The Libertine...

I had shivers and tears in my eyes. You know it was a success.

That was the best sum up I could give. Basically, it will have gone down as one of the best days of '09 and I'm so glad it happened. The end.

20 June 2009

lost things, found things, good things, great things, and narnia.

Lost Things: I totally thought my debit card was gone for goodsies for a good long time. 9 or so last night to noon or so today. TERRIFYING. Thought I'd have to cancel it and get a new one mailed to my non-existent mailbox.

Found Things: Obviously it was my debit card I found. At Jackie's under the table we sat at last night. Awesome. Thought that was notable.

Good Things: Going into Boston tomorrow [though we know how I feel about that city...ew] I get to spend a whole bunch of time with my beloved Becky who I haven't seen since January, aaaand go see Patrick Wolf, who I've wanted to see live for so long and he never plays any gigs. TOMORROW!

Great Things: One month and two days until I go back to England. YES. Nuff said.

Narnia: Will always be one of the more enjoyable movies, ever. Just sayin.

FOR NARNIA...AND FOR ASLAAAAN.

[my nerd is showing].

Fool For Love opened last night. Another one tonight. Going well. GREAT! As for the other show, I finally have my whole crew worked out. AWESOME.

I'm sure there are other notable things in life not covered here. Life's pretty cool despite losing things and flying ants.

a story while i nibble...

This is one for the books.  A story much more fascinating than my love of pink Laffy Taffy.

It involves flying ants, my face, a drowsy roommate, and oh, so much more.

I've never appreciated Choking Victim's "Infested" so much til this morning.  5:30 this morning in fact.  I went to bed about an hour later than I meant to, but figured I'd be sleeping til 7:30 anyway. Not so much.

5:30 am, I awake to the feeling of a bug trying to explore the caverns of my left nostril. I figure, Oh hey, gross, a fly got in, and I startled, looking across the horizon of my pillow for the culprit. T'was difficult considering I saw about five possibilities - Winged creatures scuttling about. My eyes shift to see about five more. And five more. And more. Buzzing about atop my pillow, my wall, about thirty smallish winged bugs partying in the corner where my headboard is. All around my face. Which means I probably had drunk flying ants puking up their Mike's Hard Lemonade on my chubby cheeks all night.

So what do I do? Well, sit up. Stare at this horrifying sight - First in terror, then in anger. It was hitting me at this point that I would not be going back to sleep tonight. Second thought, do I wake up the roommate? I was seriously thinking at this point that I'd left some scrap of food in my bed at some point and I was a little disgusted with myself, and kind of embarrassed.  False, in fact, I'm not as gross as I thought, but it's amazing the things that cross your mind when you awake to find out that creatures have been breeding on your face all night long.

After an eternity of sitting there with my quilt over me like a cape, pondering what to do next, mouth agape [probably not smart], I finally woke up my roommate by calling out her name and crying, "We're infested!"

This worked - She popped up, took one look, and immediately, while still obviously in a state of sleep, tells me "I'm calling the cops."  I did realise, however, that she meant Public Safety.

There was a nest in her windowsill.  In fact, her windowsill was brown and moving:  Baby flying ants and breeding adult ones.  They got in from the outside through a hole in the corner of the window, and henceforth became squatters.

They're all dead now, far as we know.  Exterminator came, did his thing. Someone is going to clean the place from top to bottom for us eventually. Big sigh.

Apparently we are the first at this university to have a problem with flying ants.

How Silly!

laffy taffy.

I could basically live off of it.

Even stale.

Apparently, candy gets stale.

15 June 2009

silence + truly madly lux free & blue people.

I just endulged myself in the UrbanOutfitters.co.uk website for the first time in a while.  Mostly, because it's just over a month til I'm finally back so, you know, checking out what shall be available to me.

EVERYTHING WONDERFUL EVER.

Those dresses, oh goodness, could make any gal feel completely FEMMINON.

Total endulgence.  Clothes make me feel so happy. I mean, come on, it's art for y'r body. To wear. Every day.

Mmmm...It can be so deliciously expensive being a woman.
