gone googlin' #2

This time, I didn't set out to see how silly Googlers are, but mainly wanted to know "When will John's Time Machine book cover be in stores." Well, what I did learn was the four most important things in a Googlin society: Death, Marriage, Taxes, and iPhones.

me, myself, and steve.

Steve Carell pretended to own Stephen Colbert's show tonight and it confused me so much because I already confuse those two all the time, which is bizarre because I adore them both and watch shows with both of them on the verge of religiously, and I watched the Daily Show back when they both were on it!

Anyone else confuse them all the time?

Both of their names are Stephen and have last names that start with C. Holy pants.

When I studied abroad [the first time, I guess], there were fourteen of us in the group. Out of that fourteen, seven of us [that's half] had names starting with a 'K' sound. I mean, listen, and people complain about parents naming their kids 'Apple.'

Weird aside, originality is okay, guys.

surrounded by spaniards.

That's a direct quote from one of the FIFA World Cup finals commentators. Today's lesson: Why you don't kick Xabi Alonso in the chest, repeatedly trip Andres Iniesta, allow yourself to be fooled by David Villa's apparent need to keep kicking the ball over the net, deny Fernando Torres a single match, even try to outrun the beast that is Gerard Pique or slip past the tip of Iker Casillas' boot, be deceived by Sergio Ramos' or Carles Puyol's '80s hair band manes, miss the mouth-watering experience of Jesus Navas' shocking blue eyes, tire after a 2-hour long match, or mess with an English ref!

My second choice of who I wanted to win the World Cup totally won! This is not bad, and not bad. Fernando Torres [see below] is my all-time favourite footballer - This is true. Therefore, despite my being American, if it wasn't going to be England holding the cup, I wanted it to be Spain [or America, or maybe Serbia. My heart and soul belong to England, my homeland is America, Nando's in Spain, and Serbians are really attractive]. Two Liverpool boys, success! Sad the month-long event is done, but the post-game with the trophy-retrieval was positively adorable. Oh, boys.

This looks a little bit like it's my front, or like it's pulled up over my head. It's not. It's just my back.

In related news, I'm finally thrilled with one of Paul the Octopus's predictions! Have you heard about Paul? He's English, but he lives in Germany, and the Argentinians wanted to assassinate him for his FIFA efforts, which is just sad. I'm glad they didn't.

Octopi are so silly, you have to love them, especially when they are football fans [and predict eight for eight]!

This wasn't meant to be a dramatic ode to the Spanish team, but it kinda was, and they kinda deserve it. First World Cup win, Viva España.

exercise is for women*

long term goals:
  • be the guy who makes the adult swim bumpers
  • make fried mars bars, potentially professionally
  • raft the mississippi
short term goals:
  • teach the cat to be pest control [against bugs of all sizes]
  • make fried mars bars, once or twice
  • purchase a sweat band and learn aerobics-of-tomorrow
Also, I'm going to get through the rest of this obscenely hot summer by going to libraries every day that I'm bored. Plan: Blog about Connecticut libraries. All very different experiences, or so I presume.

Have I ever mentioned how summer is by far my least favourite season? By far.
*quoth athf. men exercise.

This is how I feel about Spain making the World Cup Finals today:

[For those unfamiliar with Nick Frost facial expressions: This is a really great thing.]

do not want.

Okay, so, English to Chinese to English.
And as is true with all three of the prequels to the good Star Wars films, the ending is the best, and most hilarious [6:12-6:40].

You let me feeling sad!

[i heard about this ages ago and finally sought it out. i remember now how it felt in the ninth grade the first time i saw 'all your base']

don't let the man get y'down.

How come in every movie involving Battle of the Bands, and the like, they almost never win? Winning totally isn't cliché. It's more like - Pleasing the audience. Is that so bad?

new.

The fact that the small slivers of gappage in the sides of my four year old MacBook are now closed up with black gaff tape [lucky I sprung for the black MacBook back in the day] is really a good thing for me. Most of my expensive things tend to exhaust themselves before I even reach the point where gaff tape is necessary. Unfortunately, it's also a sign that I may have some of my father's make-it-last-forever tendencies [rarely] and I should, some day soon, give in and get a a new one...That doesn't need gaff tape.

Speaking of new things, even though it feels like just yesterday I made the big move from LiveJournal to Blogger, I've made the decision that, some day soon, probably around the time I get off my arse and get a new computer, I'm moving to Tumblr. I shall not make this sound like I am any bigger a person than I am. Truthfully, everybody's doing it. What does this mean? Not much. I'll go from four followers to zero. Honestly, I really just do this for my own exercise anyway, or for if I ever do get famous and people want to see what a silly little div I actually am, or once was. You few faithful followers, I appreciate the reads, though, and I hope you'll follow me on my little shift down the road of the interwebs.

I've been using an online blogging system since I was fourteen. What started as a way to share with my closest friends things that they already knew, but in a public place, along the way evolved quite a bit into a place for me to jot down thoughts and keep my writing in check so that even if I'm not getting actual work done, that part of my brain stays in condition. It's really pretty great and I'm glad I've continued to use it over the years.

In other news, I got completely lost, again, today, in the town in which I spent eighteen years of my life. Explain how that happens, and yet I know London, northern Rhode Island, and southeastern Mass, probably better than I know the back of either of my hands.

Alas.
