The Decemberists released a new album about a month or two months or so ago. I finally gotsdidit. It is absolutely brilliant. I was honestly concerned - And now this is slightly uncool of me but often you can tell when a band's orginality and creativity is going down the drain called "sellingout" when certain types of people start "omg'ing" their ways onto the band's fanlist. And this has sort of started happening with The Decemberists, BUT a blog or so ago, remember dear readers, I mentioned Colin Meloy going on The Colbert Report? Well, post me writing that, they performed the song "The Wanting Comes in Waves" off their new album and I fell head over heels for it, busting my way onto the iTunes store. It's a hit, kids. While they've always done the storytelling song thing, this whole album actually tells a story from start to finish - One cohesive story. Very creative, very theatrical, beautiful. Props.
Ted Leo is playing up the road in Provvy in June. Now, I have been pumped about this fact for quite a h'wile since I saw the great news spattered on his Last.fm page. It was written on my calendar. I was READY. Come to find out, the show I'm stage managing this summer has a performance that night. And I'm getting paid the bigbux this time so it's not like I can even slack off and have my ASM or something cover that night. Bummin bout that.
The Shins are playing in Boston in May. Soon! THAT I can hopefully hopefullyyyyy go to. Thirty bucks. Probably worth it? I adore - ADORE - That band and would love to see them live. It's a sit-down venue...again...But I made it through the Mountain Goats still smiling despite it so who knows. That's on the agenda. If they don't play Young Pilgrims, Gone for Good, and Phantom Limb, I'll cry at them. Or just yell the titles I want to hear over and over like the more vocal MG fans did for poor ol John Darnielle. If I'd heard "THIS YEEEAAARR" in a young hipster falsetto one more time, I was going to go play it myself...Which I can do quite well these days SO.
Patrick Wolf is now also playing the Underage Festival in London's Victoria Park, which I will be living right near this summer. He's on the agenda. Needless to say, I'm not underage. And I've dreamed for some time now of seeing the rare vision of Patrick Wolf live. Young children of London, I am in a fight with you. I will be burying my face in pint upon pint at the pub that Sunday, sure enough.
Bout it for now.
