When shows or films reuse a character but replace them with a different actor from the original.

I was thinking, for some reason, about how they brought Pete Tyler back onto Doctor Who in season 2 after having him in one episode in season 1 and how it's awesome that they were able to get the same actor back to do it. This was not the case, though, for example, in another favourite show of mine, Red Dwarf. Christine Kochanski became a regular character on the show in the later seasons after appearing in the first episode...Obviously not the same actress. In fact, didn't even play her remotely the same way. I, henceforth, could never see this new girl as Kochanski. Always, always a letdown.

I guess not every character has the simple loophole of regeneration.

Just another weakness in film and television. Sad.
